Exercise Referral

It's your life....... so make it a long and healthy one.  The Exercise Referral Scheme is a project jointly managed by Everyone Active at Spelthorne and Sunbury Leisure Centres in partnership with Spelthorne's Leisure Services and Environmental Health Services.

This scheme allows local doctors to refer their patients to the Exercise Referral Officer for a course of exercise, in order to benefit their health.  The scheme has proven particularly beneficial for people with cardiac, respiratory, weight management or general mobility conditions.

The Exercise Referral Officer recommends a 10 week (two sessions a week) programme of exercise to suit each client, according to their health needs.  There will be a review of the client's progress at five and 10 weeks.  The scheme is subsidised to make it affordable.

If you are interested in the scheme you must contact your GP to ensure that you are suitable for an exercise programme. Your GP will then contact the Exercise Referral Officer at Spelthorne Leisure Centre on your behalf. The Exercise Referral Officer will then contact you to arrange a convenient appointment.
At Everyone Active you will find there is:
Taking part in moderate exercise for just 30 minutes a day on a regular basis can reduce the risk of heart disease, keep weight under control and enhance your health and well-being.

The exercise referral scheme has a silver award
Spelthorne Leisure Centre’s exercise referral scheme has become the first scheme in the country to be accredited with silver status in the ‘Recognising Excellence’ scheme.

Recognising Excellence is a system developed in the South East that enables exercise referral schemes to be recognised for achieving high standards in the design, implementation and evaluation of their exercise and fitness services. The scheme benchmarks these services against a set of recognised standards and provides referring GPs and healthcare professionals with information about exercise programmes in their area.

The Leisure Centre worked in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council and NHS Surrey and is one of only two centres in the country to gain accreditation.

Weight Management Programme
The aim of this refferal only scheme is to help adults manage their weight more effectively by eating more healthily and becoming more physically active.  The programme is run at Spelthorne Leisure Centre.

For more information on either Exercise Referral or Weight Management please contact Chris Hughes, GP Referral Manager at Spelthorne Leisure Centre on 01784 493493 or download our leaflet (Pdf 3mb).
