Service: Neighbourhood Watch
Responsible Authority: Spelthorne Borough Council
Service Area: Neighbourhood Watch Spelthorne
Description: Neighbourhood Watch is a popular way for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved locally. It brings groups of people together to address local issues. This usually begins with people sharing crime prevention advice and activities, keeping an eye on each other's property, improving home security and building a two-way communication with the police and partners. Neighbourhood Watch has proved itself to be successful. All over the country and in all sorts of locations active Neighbourhood Watch schemes have reduced crime rates by working with each other, the police and local authorities. So successful has it become, that there are now over 153,000 Neighbourhood Watch schemes throughout the country involving an estimated 6 million householders. Within Spelthorne some 117 schemes across the Borough now cover more than 10,000 homes representing 30% of the Borough. They are all making a positive contribution to crime prevention and community safety.
