Renewable Energy
|
Production of energy produces carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the combustion of fossil fuels. Sources such as oil, coal and natural gas are used most frequently to produce electricity. In the UK, 74%1 of energy comes from these sources. By saving energy you reduce the demand for electricity supply and the amount of carbon dioxide produced. Also the electrical supply system is not perfect, neither is the system for transporting electricity around the UK and there is a loss (typically 72%2) associated with the amount of energy produced. |
| You may not have thought about it, but saving water saves energy! Water requires a great deal of energy for its extraction, purification and transport, then even more for its removal and treatment. |
