Housing Register - General information

How the housing register works

The Spelthorne Housing Register was set up by us and our housing association partners. It lists the details of people who want a home because theirs is not suitable for any reason.

Who can apply for housing?
Any person over 16 can apply to go on the register. It does not matter whether they own or rent their current home, live with their family, or live in a caravan or on a boat.

The only people who cannot apply to go on the register are explained below.

If you cannot go on the housing register, we will tell you in writing. We will also tell you that you have a legal right to have the decision reviewed by a senior officer, and how you can ask for a review.

Why should I go on the housing register?

The housing register gives you access to accommodation provided in the borough by a number of housing associations, this includes rented accommodation, shared ownership and keyworker housing.

We do not own any housing, but we can put people forward for most housing association properties in the borough.  For some properties, the relevant housing association can also offer their homes directly to people on the housing register.

So by filling in the application form to go on the Spelthorne Housing Register you can be registered for housing with all the organisations involved in this joint venture.

If you are already a housing association tenant in the Spelthorne area, special arrangements apply.

How do I apply?

You can get an application form from our offices at Knowle Green, Staines. You can either call in to collect a form, or contact us and ask us to send you one. You can also download a form.
