Our approach to meeting the support needs of vulnerable people

Housing-related support helps vulnerable people to improve their quality of life, gain basic life skills and become as independent as possible.

We support:
Sometimes the housing-related support service will mean that the person has to live in a particular residential setting. The support is based on the person living in that location e.g. sheltered housing for older people with support needs; housing for young or vulnerable people.

There is also a service called ‘floating support’ which is given to the person, no matter where they live.

Housing-related support is funded through a Government programme called Supporting People (SP).

The programme is managed for the whole of Surrey by the Supporting People team who are based at the offices of Elmbridge Borough Council (external website).

The Surrey Supporting People Strategy (2004-2009), which Spelthorne Council has endorsed, highlighted five priority groups:

Spelthorne has a number of supported housing schemes and a 'floating support' service for individuals from all the groups listed above.
