Ashford town centre uniquely retains a small charm even though it is, in fact a large town close to London.  This is mainly due to the wide variety of individual speciality shops which are offered in the centre, and the fact that although a major superstore has been built, highway improvement schemes carried out in the centre continue to keep it a desirable location for shoppers, traders and residents alike.  Improvements such as additional free parking spaces, better pedestrian walkways and crossings, speed restriction schemes and more litter bins and bench seating makes the centre an attractive and pleasant place to visit.
