What funding is available for a community heritage or history project?
There is a variety of funding available for heritage or history community projects depending on the sort of project you are planning to run.  Some of these come from lottery sources such as Awards for All or the Heritage Lottery Fund and some can come from funding that is not heritage specific, but for example could be aimed at the age group for which you are planning to run a project.  If you are planning to run a project that benefits Spelthorne residents, you can apply for a Leisure Development Grant from the council or up to £500 or 50% of your project (which ever is less).  Visit our funding page for more information on funding sources, or contact the Arts and Heritage Development Office on 01784 446338 to discuss your funding needs.

Does Spelthorne have a museum?
Spelthorne Museum is a local museum run entirely by volunteers. The museum is currently awaiting a new home after the sale of the Old Town Hall in Staines. However, the museum still runs activities, provides information, has touring exhibitions that can be loaned to venues and works with schools.

Does Spelthorne participate in Heritage Open Day?
Yes. Spelthorne has taken part in Heritage Open Days since 2003. Over four days, local properties open their doors to the public and different groups organise activities. Everything is completely free. In Spelthorne the Council co-ordinates the events and organises publicity including a free leaflet showing everything available over the four days.
Heritage Open Days is a national event organised by the Civic Trust. For details of all properties and activities nationally, visit their website.
