Youth Games 2008 booking form

Surrey Youth Games 2008

21 and 22 June in Guildford and Woking

Do you want to be part of Team Spelthorne?

Surrey Youth Games 2008 course booking form

This form should only be completed once a selection letter has been received from the sports coach.

Preparations are once again under way for the largest youth sports event in Surrey, the Surrey Youth Games. The Surrey Youth Games involve around 3000 young people from across the 11 boroughs of Surrey competing in 14 sports and over 25 events. The event is now in its 12th year and 2008 promises to be another great spectacle.

In 2007 Team Spelthorne took 22 teams to the games and after some hard fought competition finished 2nd out of the 11 boroughs in Surrey.  In 2008 you could be part of the team that looks to go one better.

The trials and coaching sessions for Team Spelthorne begin in April. Details of participating sports together with age groups and the dates, times and locations of the trials / first coaching sessions can be found on the sports information (Pdf 2mb) page. Eligibility criteria differs for each sport so please check what applies to your chosen sport.

If you would like to try out for one of the teams all you need to do is fill in a registration form and bring it with you to the trial/first coaching session for that sport. The exception to this is swimming where you must contact the club in advance. Those selected from the trials will receive several weeks structured coaching from qualified coaches. These coaching sessions will take place at the same venue as the initial trial/session. The day and time will be the same as the first session/trial (eg Girls’s basketball sessions will be on Saturdays from 12 – 2pm at Spelthorne Leisure Centre).  The final teams will be selected from these training squads and they will represent Spelthorne at the games, which are being held in Guildford and Woking on the 21 and 22 June.

The trial/first session is free for all sports. If you are selected to be part of the youth games training squad there will be a small payment required to cover the cost of the coaching and venue hire. Further details will be given on this if you are selected but for the majority of sports the cost will either be £10 or £15 for the whole block of sessions depending on length of the sessions. The exceptions to this are where clubs run the youth games sessions as part of their usual club sessions. In these cases the clubs own session fees will be payable. Please call Claire Thrussell, leisure development officer on 01784 446452 or e-mail Claire Thrussell at leisure@spelthorne.gov.uk  if you would like further clarification of any fees.

Please note that to be eligible for Team Spelthorne you must either live or go to school in Spelthorne. Other eligibility criteria applies to some sports. If you have any questions or would like further information please contact Claire Thrussell, Leisure Development Officer (sports) on 01784 446452 or e-mail Claire Thrussell at leisure@spelthorne.gov.uk
