On Friday 14 November, nine Spelthorne primary schools attended the Junior Citizenship event at Spelthorne Borough Council.

The theme of the event was ‘parks and open spaces’ and children from each school delivered a presentation where they talked about their favourite park and said what improvements they would like to see made. The points raised will be taken into account when plans for improving the parks are drawn up by the Council.

The children also took part in a question and answer session with the Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Simon Bhadye, and enjoyed a tour of the Council offices. The Mayor presented the children with certificates and goody bags which contained, among other things, long-life light bulbs.

Councillor Denise Grant, Portfolio Holder for Young People and Cultural Services said: “The children showed a great deal of enthusiasm and knowledge of the issues surrounding parks and open spaces. They brought some good ideas to the meeting including suggestions for specific items of new play equipment which we will be exploring”.
