The Off the Hook skate sessions proved to be a huge hit for young people in Spelthorne during the Easter Holidays. Spelthorne Borough Council ran two events which were attended by over 100 young people who came to skate, blade and watch.
Councillor Denise Grant, Portfolio holder for Children and Young People, said:
“Saturday night’s indoor skate session is always well attended and we saw an opportunity to hold an outdoor event during the holidays to try and further promote the sport. Obviously the weather on Tuesday was exceptional and that helped as more people were in the park. I think it is important to offer these sessions in a safe and secure environment so skateboarders and their friends can practice their skills or just sit and watch, without getting into trouble”.
Spelthorne Youth Council applied for funding to purchase mobile skate ramps which can now be transported and set up anywhere in the Borough providing the surface is suitable. The event was supported by Surrey Police in the form of local PCSOs Clare Holmes and Colin Gibbons.
