The Council has recently been asking for residents’ views on parking in Staines. It is suggesting the introduction of controlled parking zones (CPZs) to ease the pressure in some areas.

A number of road shows were held recently to show residents plans for eight zones across Staines (map). A leaflet was distributed to all residents in the area which had around a disappointingly low 13% response rate. Further responses were received at the roadshows and five petitions against the proposals were also received.  Reactions should be treated with a degree of caution however, as they clearly do not accurately represent the views of all residents. But they are useful to feed into longer term planning for parking in the town centre which could include a Park and Ride scheme.

As a result of the detailed feedback received, the original plans have been changed and some boundaries adjusted.
Cllr Gerry Forsbrey, Portfolio Holder for the Environment commented: “We are grateful to all those who took part in this important exercise. The work we have done subsequently is a result of listening closely to the views of local people and reflects a great deal of detail. We think that what we now have is a good balance between providing residents with some certainty about parking.”

Next steps: Modified plans that take account of all views will be displayed at the Council Offices. After the final revision staff from both Spelthorne Council and Surrey County Councils will refer to elected members for a final decision. If agreed, a further consultation on the detailed proposals will be arranged and there is an opportunity for residents to object.
