Spelthorne Council has, today, asked the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to step in and make the decision on the Eco Park himself.
This follows on from the Borough Council’s very strong objections to the planned development at the Charlton Lane Civic Amenity Site which Surrey County Council’s Planning and Regulatory committee subsequently resolved to permit, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State.
Richard Smith-Ainsley Deputy Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning commented: “This is a hugely damaging proposal to which local residents are overwhelmingly opposed.
“The scheme was approved despite the numerous planning issues raised by Spelthorne Council and the strength of local feeling.
The only way now for this scheme to be properly dealt with is for the Secretary of State to make the decision himself and that is what we are asking him to do. We have set out a detailed case why he should refuse this scheme.
This proposal will have an enormous impact on a large number of residents many of whom live within a few hundred metres of the site.
The Borough Council has examined this proposal in considerable detail and is not satisfied that Surrey County Council has come to its own views to support the scheme in a wholly objective and balanced way which gives proper weight to the scheme’s impact and to local views. That is why the Council is formally asking the Secretary of State to use his powers to step in and make the decision himself.”
