The Spelthorne Safer, Stronger Partnership has agreed its priorities for the next three years, following an assessment of crimes, past performance, and consultations.
The priorities are:-
To reduce crime, with particular reference to:
Burglary and theft
Harm caused through misuse of drugs and alcohol
Criminal damage including graffiti
Vehicle crime (theft of and theft from)
Violent crime
To reduce anti-social behaviour
Particularly the anti-social use of vehicles
To reduce re-offending – in particular:
Prolific and priority offenders
Repeat of domestic violence
To reduce the threat of terrorism
To identify how we can make our Borough safer through the Government’s proposed ‘localism’ initiatives.
Overall crime reduced by 5% in 2010, following a reduction of 7% in 2009. Key crime priorities such as domestic burglary fell by 10% in the year up to September 2010, compared to the same period in 2009; theft was down by 4%; criminal damage down by 17%; theft from vehicles down by 13% and theft of vehicles down by 30%. Anti-social behaviour, another key priority for the Partnership, has been reducing over the last three years – by over 600 incidents.
Roberto Tambini, Chairman of the Partnership and Spelthorne Council Chief Executive said: “Our priorities reflect the concerns of local people but also focus on where we can make the most difference. We are also committed to helping Surrey tackle the threat of terrorism”.
He added: “We are delighted that crime is reducing and we know from our consultations that people acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all our partners, including community groups, who are helping to make the Borough safer”.
The Partnership will shortly be agreeing on the actions, initiatives and projects it will be undertaking in 2011/12 to meet its priorities. Despite a 54% cut in central funding the Partnership believes it will be able to meet the challenges ahead.
