The latest Partnership Action Day for Spelthorne took place in Staines Town Centre on Thursday 14 July.
Throughout the day, a number of enforcement measures were carried out, including traffic speed checks, vehicle inspections and car parking enforcement. As a consequence:-
two driver alerts and vehicle advisory notices were issued;
six vehicle and person checks were carried out;
eight licensed premises visited, during which Surrey Trading Standards carried out the testing of alcohol to check for counterfeit alcohol;
In addition, licensing offences were discovered in one of the premises inspected by the Licensing team;
five tickets were issued for car parking offences; and
two vehicle inspection warning notices were issued.
Thirteen different organisations and voluntary organisations took part in this event including, Surrey Police, DVLA, Surrey Fire and Rescue Services, Spelthorne Borough Council Community Safety and Licensing Team, Surrey Crimestoppers, Age Concern and Surrey Trading Standards.
These events are organised by the Spelthorne Safer Stronger Partnership and offer the public the chance to see how the various organisations of the Partnership, involved in community safety, work together to tackle community safety issues such as crime and anti social behaviour.
Members of the public were invited to visit the display stands situated in the High Street, staffed by Police and other Partnership Agency Officers, who were offering advice on home security, personal safety, crime prevention and fire safety. Some of the displays were interactive and the Surrey Fire and Rescue Services’ brake reaction testing equipment and beer goggles proved to be popular.
In addition to this, 20 cycle marking kits were given out to help cyclists guard against cycle theft.
Councillor Frank Ayers, Spelthorne Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety commented “Our Partnership Action Days are very important to show the public that we are working together to raise awareness of community safety, improve confidence and take enforcement action where necessary.”
Police Neighbourhood Inspector Sarah Greenhalgh added, “We are always keen to engage with the public and find out what their concerns are within our neighbourhoods. PADs give us the ideal opportunity to talk to local residents and businesses and find out what joint-working initiatives the community want us to prioritise.”
