Councillor Ted Culnane the Council's Portfolio Holder for Adult and Elderly Services, says:

"I am pleased the final decision on the Contract to construct the new Community Centre has now been made and the necessary budgets approved. The Council has stuck by its commitment to build a new facility for the elderly in the centre of Staines, a commitment that was made when the decision was taken to demolish the existing Day Centre. We can now look forward to having a new facility with either access to the Town Centre shops and other facilities being available by the early summer."

The contractor BRBS will commence work in January and construction will take approximately 20 weeks. At the same Meeting the Council agreed to fund the demolition of the existing Day Centre in advance of the Old Town Hall being let to avoid any delays in the completion of the Memorial Gardens/Riverside Car Park landscaping scheme.
