Public participation at Planning Committee meetings

These new arrangements operate at Council meetings and provide a means by which any resident can put forward their views in person on the issues involved, before the Council considers a recommendation made by the Executive or a Committee and makes a decision on it. Anyone wishing to do this simply has to notify the Chief Executive's office by noon on the day of the Council meeting.

In addition, there is still a public question time at the start of all Council meetings. This enables any person to ask the Leader of the Council or a Committee Chairman a question in person about the Council's activities or issues that affect the Borough. Again, the only proviso is that they have given a copy of their question to the Chief Executive's office by noon three working days prior to the day of the meeting. The Council has now also introduced a procedure to enable petitions to be presented formally at Council meetings and for the person presenting the petition to address the Council in person for a maximum of three minutes about it. Again any one wishing to do this simply has to notify the Chief Executive's office by 12 noon three working days prior to the day of the Council meeting.

If you wish in person to ask a question, speak on a recommendation or present a petition at a Council meeting please contact Richard Powell on 01784 446240.
