Bus Service Review Surrey County Council has been reviewing the support it gives to public buses, both the main network and the ‘school specials’ that serve some secondary schools. It was clear that the current subsidy of £12m a year net was not sustainable and major savings needed to be made. In parallel with public consultation, routes have been renegotiated and re-tendered with bus operators. Here are links to an outline of the review and a list of services from September 2010. Spelthorne Council Planning update 28 Harfield Road, Sunbury The Planning Inspectorate has upheld the Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the erection of a detached four bed dwelling to the rear of 28 Harfield Road. The Inspector agreed with the Council that the new house would be at odds with the character of the surrounding area, and would damage the sylvan character of the area. In addition, the scheme would be damaging to the amenities of the Green Belt to the rear and harm the living conditions of neighbouring properties. The Council also wrote to the Planning Inspectorate in light of new government guidance about garden land, stating that the development was no longer acceptable in principle. The Inspector agreed and concluded that “The change in policy means that the site as garden land is not longer regarded as being a priority for development.” Land adjacent to 2 Bryan Close, Sunbury The Planning Inspectorate has upheld the Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for an amendment to a planning permission granted for a new 4 bed dwelling. The Council was concerned that the living conditions on one bedroom was unacceptable and that the increased ridge height was out of character with the local area. Whilst the Inspector did not agree that the height was an issue, he did agree that the poor living conditions did not meet the requirement for a “high standard of design in new development”. |
