Voluntary Organisation Grants

The Council has an annual grant process for providing financial support to local groups. Applications must usually be submitted by the beginning of October. A meeting is held in December/January of each year to make grant awards.
Grants normally fall into two categories; Housing/Community Care and Leisure Development. These grants usually assist with running costs of organisations, as distinct from one-off projects.

Housing and Community Care Services

Many different types of organisation fall under this category. They include the following:

  1. General advisory / social work eg Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
  2. Assistance for people with disabilities, eg Shopmobility
  3. Housing initiatives, e.g. RentStart
Criteria:
  1. Fill a gap (unmet need) in service unlikely to be provided by the Council or other agencies. The need will normally be identified in one of the strategic planning documents produced, e.g. Community Care Plan, Spelthorne Housing Strategy Statement and the various Health Authority plans and strategies.
  2. Respond to client or carer demand and innovate new services for such groups which are supported locally and are sustainable and which also inform the Community care planning process

Leisure Development Grants

Spelthorne provides its own
leisure development grants scheme. This initiative supports local groups and individuals by assisting with funding for play, sports, arts and heritage projects and talented individuals. Individuals can apply for up to £300 and groups up to £500.
