Housing Benefit - Extended payments
Extended Payments are made for the first four weeks when a claimant starts work or increases their hours or wages and because of this they are no longer entitled to income support. These payments are to help claimants to increase their wage or return to work. You must obtain a form and an explanatory note from the Department of Work and Pensions -there are strict time limits to qualifying.

Overpayments of benefit due to not advising the local authority of a change in circumstance will need to be repaid. You will be sent an overpayment notice. This notice will also show any “underlying entitlement” that you have received to reduce your overpayment. If it does not show this then you will be invited to claim underlying entitlement.
