You may be able to claim:-
ADDITIONAL TAX ALLOWANCE - If you are a lone parent and earning, you can claim an additional tax allowance. Please contact your local tax office.
CHILD BENEFIT SINGLE PARENT RATE - This replace One Parent benefit. If you are a lone parent, child benefit is £17.10 for the eldest child. A claim form is available from your local post office.
EXTENDED PAYMENTS - If you have been unemployed and in receipt of JSA (income support) for at least 26 consecutive weeks you can claim 4 weeks extra Housing and Council Tax benefit. Contact your Employment Service Jobcentre or DSS office for the claim form within 8 days of your JSA (income support) ending. Ask for form NHB 1EP.
INCOME SUPPORT FOR LONE PARENTS who are working under 16 hours a week or in receipt of Invalid Care Allowance may be entitled to Income Support to top up income, plus free school meals, spectacles and dental treatment. Savings needs to be under £8,000. Contact your local DSS office - Hounslow 0181 607 1600.
SOCIAL FUND HELP - If you are in receipt of any means tested benefit such as Income Support, Family Credit or Disability Working Allowance you may be entitled to help with maternity, funeral and cold weather expenses. The Social Fund also offers community care grants, budgeting loans and crisis loans. Contact your local DSS office for further information.
DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE - If you are under 65 and need help with personal care and/or mobility. Contact your local DSS office for Application Form DS704.
ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - If you are aged 65 or over and need a lot of help because of illness or disability - please ask your doctor for advice. Contact your local DSS office for claim form DS702.
INVALID CARE ALLOWANCE - If you are under 65 and caring for a severely disabled person who is in receipt of the middle or highest rate of Disability Living Allowance care component or Attendance Allowance (you must be earning more than £50 per week). You may be entitled to invalid care allowance. Contact your local DSS office for claim form DS2.
CARERS PREMIUM - If you are under 65 and care for a severely disabled person in receipt of Disability Living Allowance care component or Attendance Allowance, you may be able to get an extra £13.35 included in your Income Support. Contact the DSS office that holds your claim.
INCAPACITY BENEFIT - If you are a woman under 60 or a man under 65 and you are incapable of work you may be entitled to this benefit. If you are incapable of work and are employed, but cannot get Statutory Sick Pay from your employer, or if you are self employed or unemployed you may also be entitled. You will need to have paid enough National Insurance Contributions in the relevant period. Ask for claim form SC1 from your local DSS office or post office.
SEVERE DISABLEMENT ALLOWANCE - If you are under 65 and you have been incapable of work for at least 28 consecutive weeks because of illness or disability, but cannot get Incapacity Benefit you may be able to claim this benefit. Ask for form SDA1 from your local DSS office.
MATERNITY ALLOWANCE - If you are self employed, or have recently changed or left your job you may be entitled to Maternity Allowance for 18 weeks once you have your Maternity Certificate (MATB1). Contact your local DSS office or maternity clinic for a claim form MA1.
WIDOW'S PENSION - If you are a widow and were aged 45+ when your husband died you can apply for a widow's pension.

WIDOW'S MOTHER'S ALLOWANCE - If the above applies and you have dependant children. Contact your local DSS office for claim form BW1.
JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE - If you are unemployed and actively seeking work you may be entitled to JSA. Make an appointment at your local Job Centre.
HOUSING AND COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT - If your JSA benefit has been suspended on grounds other than income reasons you may still be entitled to Housing and Council Tax benefits. Confirm your suspension on a special notice to the Council.
DISABLED FACILITIES GRANT - if you or someone living in your property is disabled you may qualify for a disabled facilities grant towards the cost of providing adaptations and facilities to enable the disabled person to continue to live there independently. Mandatory and discretionary grants are available and the level of financial help is dependent on your income. Stairlifts, improving access and movement around the home, and adapting heating and lighting controls for easier use are some of the improvements that can be made.
