Right of appeal
Housing Benefits overpayments

Overpayments are notified to the claimant by letter, which has details regarding the right of appeal printed on the reverse of that letter.  An invoice may be sent out with some letters.  If the invoice is sent to the landlord for repayment, the claimant will be notified of this on the letter.  In some cases, overpayments are recovered from ongoing benefit.

Claimants have the right of appeal within one calendar month only of the date of the overpayment letter, this must be done in writing by email: benefits@spelthorne.gov.uk or by post:

Council Tax benefit

Overpayments are notified to the claimant by letter, which has details regarding the right of appeal printed on the reverse of that letter.  A new Council Tax bill is sent to the claimant when there is an overpayment.

Claimants have the right of appeal within four weeks only of the date of the overpayment letter, this must be done in writing by email: benefits@spelthorne.gov.uk or by post:

Claimants also have the right to consult the Council Tax office on how to repay the debt along with their Council Tax in some cases. This should be done by contacting the Council Tax office directly by email: Ctax@spelthorne.gov.uk or telephone 01784 – 446210/446208.
