This Licensing Committee is a regulatory Committee, which has decision-making powers and reports to Council.
The Licensing Committee comprises 15 councillors and is responsible for carrying out the Council's responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003, the Gambling Act 2005 and all other licensing and registration functions not covered by those Acts or delegated to officers. This includes playing a role in developing the Council's Policies on the way it carries out its variouslicensing and registration functions.
The Licensing Committee is scheduled to meet every four weeks if necessary. The meetings are held in the Council Chamber on a Wednesday at 7.30pm and are open to the public.
The Licensing Sub-Committee comprises three councillors, selected by officers in consultation with the Chairman, from the main Licensing Committee.
The Licensing Sub-Committee conducts hearings mainly in respect of contested applications under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005. It meets as often as required.
