New MEND Programme

The next MEND programme (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it!) starts on 11 January. The scheme is part of a national healthy living programme for young people aged 7-13 who would like to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

The 10 week programme includes weekly games and activities, practical demonstrations, games and tips about healthy foods and label reading as well as a supermarket tour with a chance to try delicious new foods.

It is run by Spelthorne Borough Council in partnership with Surrey NHS with funding from Big Lottery. There is no cost to attend the programme, but we will need to assess whether a child qualifies, based on their age, weight and health.

For more information contact Leisure Services on 01784 446433 or leisure@spelthorne.gov.uk

Boiler scrappage scheme

The Government’s domestic boiler scrappage scheme was announced this week.

Up to 125,000 households in England with working “G-rated” boilers can now apply to the Energy Saving Trust for a voucher which will entitle them to £400 off the price of a new, modern “A-rated” boiler or a renewable heating system like a biomass boiler or a heat pump.

The Government’s boiler scrappage scheme has already triggered some companies to match the offer and it is expected others will follow suit.

The scheme will run in England only. For more information please visit the Energy Saving Trust website (external website).
