Mayor to attend Remembrance Parade in Ashford
The Mayor, Cllr Caroline Spencer and Roberto Tambini, Chief Executive of Spelthorne Council, will attend the Remembrance Service at the war memorial in Ashford on Sunday 8 November.

There is now an additional exhibition organised by the Environment Agency on the Lower Thames Strategy which will be held on Thursday 12 November from 3-8pm at Charlton Village Hall, Hetherington Road. It will enable residents to find out more about the strategy and its implications for the community.

Spelthorne Civic Award Trust
Nominate a dedicated volunteer
The Trust would like to hear from any individual or voluntary organisation about volunteer helpers who would make worthy recipients of a Spelthorne Civic Award.
The criteria for an award is that the volunteer has given dedicated voluntary services for a minimum of 12 years in the Borough of Spelthorne.
The recipients are selected by an independent body of Trustees. The deadline for nominations is 31 January 2010.
The next presentation evening will be held on 12 April 2010 in the Council Chambers at Spelthorne Borough Council.

'Dare 2 be different' 2010 calendars

The 'Dare 2 be different' calendar is to raise awareness and support for the Ashford and St Peter’s Breast Unit and Breast Cancer Research UK. It is the third calendar of its kind, featuring twelve lovely ladies, together with the support and artistic efforts of the London Welsh Rugby players.

These are real women and they are all breast cancer survivors, celebrating renewed health. The calendars are available from Debenhams or on-line from www.dare2bedifferent.net and cost £10 each for A3 size or £6 for a desk calendar.
Off the Hook
Join Off the Hook for inline skating and skateboarding at the Spelthorne Leisure Centre on Saturday 14 November from 6-8.30pm. Entry fee £4. Fun for young people aged 11-19 years. Skate to the boom box and have a great evening meeting and making friends. Refreshments are available from the vending machines in the Leisure Centre Foyer. Art and Craft Club at the Resource Centre
An art and craft club is being held on Tuesday’s at the Resource Centre in Staines from 3.30pm for early birds and 4–5.30pm for those who have a little further to travel. The club runs during term time until 12 December. Have lots of fun being creative with all sorts of craft ideas and activities. Support Staines Town FC in their FA Cup run
Staines Town FC is through to the 1st round of the FA Cup where they will play Shrewsbury Town away on Saturday 7 November at 3pm.

Sunbury Football Project
The Sunbury Football Project recently moved to its winter home at St Paul's School in Sunbury.
The project is organised for the local young people by PC Caroline Barnes of Surrey Police with support from Kick London (a Christian football coaching charity) and A2Dominion who provide refreshments.
The coaching sessions are held between 5-6pm on Fridays and are currently attended by approximately 18 young people.
Funding for the Project has come from Councillor Sandra Dunn's Better Neighbourhood Grant and funds raised by PC Caroline Barnes and Andy Holdaway of Spelthorne Council.

Overall purpose of the post: to assist with the recruiting of volunteers, and their placement, maintaining and developing relationships with member organisations, and widening the areas from which volunteers are recruited.

Overall purpose of the post: to assist with the placement of volunteers who are referred from the Staines Job Centre Plus (JCP). Interview the client, make the placement and follow-up with both the organisation and volunteer.
Voluntary Action in Spelthorne provides an advice and information service to voluntary organisations, acts as a voice for the local voluntary and community sector and manages a Volunteer Centre based within Spelthorne Borough Council offices at the Community Link.
