Dog fouling
Spelthorne Council’s Streetscene Enforcement staff patrol the Borough’s parks and open spaces as well as the streets. Whilst on patrol one of their duties is to tackle the problem of dogs fouling public areas. Most dog owners are responsible and clear up after their pet but unfortunately some don’t take their responsibilities so seriously and this has an impact on everyone in the community.
Owners are reminded of the following points:-
- cleaning up after your dog is one of the key areas of responsibilities for dog owners, especially when in public spaces.
- owners will be prosecuted if they allow their dog to foul and do not clear up (Dog Fouling of the Land Act 1996) (external website). The maximum penalty is £500.
- carry poop scoop bags with you at all times. Simply keep a plastic bag in your pocket when out walking.
Do you have a problem with dog fouling in your area? You can contact the Streetscene Enforcement staff Natalie Jones and Maureen Findell on 01784 446411 or e-mail streetscene@spelthorne.gov.uk
