Airtrack

Airtrack is a proposal by BAA to provide new rail services to Heathrow from the south and west of London.

They will be submitting their scheme to the Secretary of State for Transport on Friday 24 July 2009. An eight week consultation period will then run until Friday 18 September .

The scheme involves new rail services from Waterloo, Reading and Guildford to Heathrow Terminal 5 and an extension of Heathrow Express services from Heathrow to Staines. It is being submitted under Transport and Works Act powers and seeks approval for the proposed rail project as well as compulsory purchase powers and a direction for planning permission.

New sections of track are needed in Staines town centre (you may have heard this described as the Staines chord) and northward from the Windsor line adjacent to the M25 up to Terminal 5.. A new platform is required at Staines Station involving extensive rebuilding of the existing station. There are other works required as part of the scheme which include:
  • highways,
  • other rights of way
  • structures arising from the building work and
  • the need to compensate for some common land, public open space and and areas of special scientific interest that are required.
All the submission documents and plans will be available from 24 July on the Airtrack web site www.heathrowairport.com/airtrack. Paper copies of the documents are also being 'deposited' by BAA at the Council Offices at Knowle Green, Staines and at Staines and Stanwell libraries.

The Council is to be formally consulted on the scheme by the Secretary of State and will carefully consider what is submitted before making a detailed response.

Keeping your wheelie bins clean

Advice and information on how to keep your wheelie bins clean.

Last chance to buy a bargain compost bin

In addition to the massive increase in recycling rates this year Spelthorne Council is encouraging residents to reduce the food they throw out. It is offering compost bins and food digesters at bargain prices – but hurry, the offer ends on 30 September. You can order your bin from Recycle Now website.
.

Compost bins take kitchen waste (egg shells, kitchen paper, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and even shredded paper) as well as garden waste (grass cuttings, prunings and twigs) and are available from as little as £10 (plus £5 delivery).  Food digesters process waste such as out-of-date meat, cheese and yoghurt, leftovers and even chicken carcases and are available from only £15 (plus £9.95 delivery).

In addition if you would like to join the second phase of the garden waste scheme which will be starting in spring 2010 please register your interest by calling Customer Services on 01784 451499 or by e-mail.

Food digesters process waste such as out-of-date meat, cheese and yoghurt, leftovers and even chicken carcases and are available from only £15 (plus £9.95 delivery).

Every day thousands of tonnes of this type waste is sent to landfill. Instead why not use a compost bin or a food digester which will have the added benefit of providing you with high-quality, free compost to use in your garden.

So hurry and order your compost bin and/or food digester today and make the most of this fantastic offer.  Contact the Customer Services at Spelthorne Council to order on 01784 451499.
