Free fun programme for kids to become fitter, healthier and happier!
If you are worried that your children might be overweight you may be interested in coming along to a free programme starting in Spelthorne on 14 September. The programme is called MEND and it helps to get kids healthy and fit in only 10 weeks and helps them stay that way! The programme is designed for children and young people aged 7-13.
What happens on the MEND Programme?
The programme consists of 18 sessions (twice a week for 2 hours/sessions) and includes weekly games and activities, learning about being active and having fun, practical demonstrations, tips about healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes, a fun supermarket tour and a chance to try delicious new foods! It also includes fun interactive discussions that will teach parents about easy and effective ways to improve your child’s self confidence.
If you would like your child to attend the scheme they will need to be assessed to determine whether they will qualify, based on their age, weight and health. You will also need to commit to accompanying your child to all sessions.
Please contact Leisure Services on 01784 446433 or Leisure@spelthorne.gov.uk.
Find out about other children having fun on the MEND programme www.mendprogramme.org. Spelthorne Leisure Services has received national lottery funding to run the Mend programme in liaison with Surrey Primary Care Trust.

The tender invitations for the shared cycleway/footpath at Hawke Park (formerly TP26 –Sunbury Relief Road route) have been sent to 10 contractors. The tender invites the contractors to price two alternative surfaces; Breedon Gravel and Fibredec, the latter being a finish used throughout Surrey for the construction of cycle ways. Bridge over the River Colne
A programme of works for the repairs to the timber bridge over the River Colne at Staines has been received, with the start date of 14 September intended. The works have been in abeyance for some time following the discovery of serious decay in a main support beam and decking members. The works now proposed will take six weeks, with the bridge closed during this time. A signed detour will be put in place via Market Square and Clarence Street Last time we closed the bridge, residents experienced several incidents where people made their own detours so, on this occasion, we will be blocking off the footpath at the rear of the Old Town Hall.
