Responsibilites of the Improvement and Development Committee

To discharge the function of overview and scrutiny in relation to the development of policies and strategies to meet local needs and in particular:

To assist the Council and the Executive on policy issues generally including the initiation and development of new policies and strategies (this includes not just the Council's policies and strategies but those of other bodies which affect the well-being of the Spelthorne community).

To assist the Council in the development of its budget and policy framework.

To consider and advise the Executive and Council on the content of the Best Value Performance Plan and its Best Value review programme.

To participate in Best Value reviews through member working groups.

To review and scrutinise the performance and decisions of the Executive in relation to policy matters and the Council's budget and policy framework and to exercise the right of "call in" of decisions in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
