Youth Arts update Youth Arts Workshops are fun, but they are short-lived… Youth Arts as provided by Spelthorne Borough Council is changing. Up until now, the focus has been on one or two day holiday workshops providing tasters in different art forms. This is a good way of introducing people to new activities but what happens when they want to carry on and develop their newfound skill? The answer is, it’s not always possible. And one day workshops aren’t very cost-efficient... for the council or the participants! So, there’s a new focus for youth arts… From Spring 2004, rather than focussing on one-off activities in the holidays, the youth arts programme will focus on developing on-going opportunities for young people to develop their interest in certain areas. The aim in the long term is to provide sustainable opportunities for young people to participate in and enjoy these activities. Youth music will be the first area to receive special attention. |
![]() FOCUS ON: CONTEMPORARY YOUTH MUSIC If you or someone you know is in a band, you’ll want to read this… Spelthorne Borough Council’s new youth arts programme (see above) will start with contemporary youth music focusing initially on young bands. The idea is to develop rehearsal, training, gigging and recording opportunities over the next few years. If you are in a band or are the parent of a budding rock star, then we need your input!!!
