Spelthorne Planning Committee has granted planning permission for a new development by Berkeley Homes at 17-51 London Road, Staines-upon-Thames. The development will transform and dramatically improve the area, supporting the Councils' focus on rejuvenation of Staines-upon-Thames and increase housing delivery.
The project includes 467 residential homes, ranging from studios to 3 Beds, as well as 21,000 square feet of flexible commercial space on the ground and first floors. The development will critically offer 41 affordable rented homes that meet the long-term local demand for housing in Spelthorne.
A new public garden, central to the development, will offer an open environment serving the whole community.
Cllr Ian Harvey, Leader of the Council, said:
"This new development forms part of Spelthorne's ambitious housing delivery programme. The Council is committed to increasing the availability of good quality, affordable rented homes in the Borough and are delighted that this brown-field site development provides such much needed housing in a sustainable town-centre location. This is a landmark development in Staines-upon-Thames and we look forward to delivering further schemes in the near future".
During the Committee meeting, Berkeley homes were commended for working proactively with the residents. Cllr Richard Smith-Ainsley, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said:
"Engagement with the community has been key throughout every stage of this project. Both the Council and Berkeley Homes listened to what people wanted and tried to incorporate their wishes in to each of the phasing designs. This resulted in local residents giving direct support to the scheme. A great example of working in partnership with the community".
