Esso's Southampton to London Pipeline (SLP) project proposes to replace 90km of the existing 105km underground aviation fuel pipeline that runs from Fawley Refinery near Southampton to the West London Terminal storage facility in Hounslow.  The proposed pipeline will pass through Spelthorne and if constructed will have a range of environmental and amenity impacts in the locality, mainly during the construction phase.

Though the Council does not object in principle to the proposed pipeline, its main objective is ensure that adverse impacts on local residents and the environment are minimised by the replacement pipeline proposals.

Following consultation, Esso's final route for the replacement pipeline has been confirmed and the formal application for the permission to install it has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.
