Smokefree legislation

Smoking is the single biggest cause of preventable illness in Surrey and is accountable for over 1400 smoking related deaths each year, that's nearly 30 deaths a week, almost four a day.

From 1 July 2007, it became illegal to smoke in enclosed public places, workplaces, public vehicles and work vehicles in England. The new smokefree law was introduced to protect employees and the public from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke.

The Environmental Health department enforce this legislation.
