How we allocate housing

Search Moves choice-based lettings scheme

We allocate social housing according to our pdf icon Common Allocations Policy [1Mb]. The main way we allocate housing is through our Choice Based Lettings Scheme Search Moves.

The Allocations Policy explains who we prioritise for housing and how the lettings process works.

Topics covered include:

  • eligibility for housing
  • banding (these reflect the applicant's need and location)
  • the bidding process
  • how assessments are made
  • advertising
  • help for the vulnerable

Some new developments are subject to a Lettings Plan, which identifies particular priorities for lettings. Current Lettings Plan are shown below.

New Allocations Policy - Spring 2018

In Spring 2018 we will we will be adopting a new policy for allocating social housing in Spelthorne.

All members currently on our housing register will be required to re-apply in early 2018 using an updated online application form to be assessed against the new policy. More information about the process will be on www.searchmoves.org.uk in 2018. You can view a copy of the pdf icon new allocations policy [417kb].
