Thank you to everyone who took part in our Leisure Centre consultation which ran from 28 February to 10 April 2020, including a public exhibition on 28 and 29 February at the existing Spelthorne Leisure Centre.
The overwhelming majority of respondents to the consultation either submitted their responses via the interactive website or by filling in the questionnaire at the existing Spelthorne Leisure Centre. Only a small handful of residents posted in their responses to the Council. Residents could also email comments to a dedicated email address.
We received a total of 517 responses, with the feedback showing that the vast majority of respondents (96%) would like to see the Council build a new leisure centre. 97% of respondents supported the proposed location, whilst 92% said the suggested range of facilities would meet their needs. 15% of respondents said they would like to see larger studios for fitness classes, whilst a smaller number of comments and suggestions were received on a number of other issues including energy efficiency, the swimming pool, squash courts, changing rooms, accessibility for disabled users, external lighting and walkways, and the cost of using the facilities.
The Council is now looking to refine the scheme based on some of the feedback received from the consultation process. When this work is complete, a report will be presented to the Council's Cabinet for a decision on when to submit a planning application. Assuming this is determined before the end of this year, it is possible that construction works could start before mid-2021.
