Who is our meals service for?

People of all ages, who find it difficult or impossible to prepare a daily meal can benefit from Meals on Wheels. At least one hot, nutritious meal a day is very important for healthy living.

The person receiving Meals on Wheels must live within the Borough of Spelthorne. If referral to the service is by a health professional meals can commence the next working day.

What do we provide?

Spelthorne Meal on Wheels will deliver a hot, tasty and nutritious meal for up to seven days a week to the client's homes between 11am and 2pm to anybody in the community who meets the criteria of the service (weekend and bank holiday service is provided only to those who are most in need).  

Meals can be provided for short periods of time (eg in the event of illness or when somebody who normally provides a meal is on holiday) or can be provided on a long term basis.

Frozen meals are available at weekends and Bank Holidays for those people who are unable to cook but are capable of heating a frozen meal.

Hot meals consist of a main course and pudding. There is a varied menu which includes vegetarian options; however special health and dietary requirements such as diabetes and soft diet meals are prioritised.

How much does it cost?

The cost of a hot or frozen main meal and pudding is £3.90 (this is a subsidised service), we can also supply a freshly made sandwich for an extra cost of £1.80.

Invoices are sent monthly in arrears. These can be paid for by the client, the client's relatives / friends or on occasions by Social Services if they are receiving other benefits. Payment can be made by Direct Debit or at the post office. You can also pay for your meals service online by selecting 'Sales Ledger Invoices'.
