Equality, diversity and inclusion

What is equality and diversity?

Equality means a person's right to access information, services, employment and training without being treated less favourably because of their age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnership. Diversity means accepting that people are individuals and are different in terms of age, gender, disability, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, belief and class.

At the heart of our Corporate Plan is putting our communities at the centre of everything we do, to deliver housing which meets the needs of all sections of our communities and to deliver effective services which meet the changing needs of our residents. Our vision for equalities in Spelthorne is putting our communities, employees, partners and residents first, committing to improving the quality of life for all and strive to improve the active participation of our communities in the economic, educational, cultural, social and community life of the borough.
