Our Electoral Services department are responsible for keeping the Electoral Register for the borough of Spelthorne as up to date and accurate as possible. You can help with this, by ensuring that you respond to any correspondence sent to you regarding your registration (if a response is necessary).
They are also responsible for the planning and organisation of all elections and referendums, including the booking of polling stations, recruitment of polling station and count staff, processing postal and proxy voting forms, the opening of postal voting packs and the counting of the votes, among many other administrative tasks.
Here you can find out how to register to vote, apply for a postal or proxy vote and locate your local polling station.
Changes to voting by post and proxy
You can now apply online to vote by post and for some types of proxy vote. You also need to prove your identity when applying, by providing your National Insurance number.
There are limits to how many people a voter can act as a proxy for. This means you can only act as a proxy for two people living in the UK. If you act as a proxy for people living overseas, you can act as proxy for up to four people but only two of these can be based in the UK.
These changes apply to UK Parliament elections, including by-elections and recall petitions, local elections and Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

The Staines By-Election is taking place on Thursday 16 October 2025
