Local Government Reorganisation

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has officially launched its consultation on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) - the biggest shake-up in over 50 years. This is your chance to help decide how your local services are run, how your community is represented and who makes the decisions that affect your daily life.

This consultation is open to all - residents, businesses, voluntary groups and local organisations - and it's your only chance to have a say. Every voice counts and the deadline is Tuesday 5 August.

The two options on the table:

• Surrey County Council's proposal to create two large unitary authorities
• An alternative backed by nine boroughs and districts, including Spelthorne, to create three smaller unitary councils

Spelthorne Borough Council strongly supports the three-unitary model, believing it will deliver:

• More responsive, community-focused services
• Stronger ties with local identities and needs
• A bigger boost to infrastructure and local economies
• More accountable and efficient local governance

Cllr Joanne Sexton, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council, said: "This is a critical moment for our communities. The decisions made now will shape how local services are delivered for decades. I urge everyone to take five minutes to respond - this is your future, your voice, your chance to make it count."
