Armed Forces Week
Armed Forces Week provides the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.
The week of events and celebrations ends with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June and there are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved. Use the interactive map to find your nearest event.
Spelthorne Council is very proud to have been honoured with the prestigious Gold Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which was launched in 2014 to recognise organisations which demonstrate support for the Defence community.
The Gold Award is only given to those organisations which proactively support the Armed Forces community and encourage others to do the same. Companies should have 'forces-friendly' recruitment and selection processes and in the case of local authorities, offer services which take account of their unique situation.
The Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr John Doran, said: "Armed Forces Week is a meaningful reminder of the courage, commitment, and sacrifice shown by those who serve. It gives us all a chance to reflect, show our support, and recognise the vital role the Armed Forces play in protecting our way of life."
