Award-winning green spaces in Spelthorne
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Cllr Malcolm Beecher, Chair of Spelthorne Council's Environment and Sustainability Committee, said: "We are delighted that we have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme again this year. We get many compliments about our green spaces so it's fantastic to be officially acknowledged in this way. Thank you to our parks team who dedicate their time to ensuring our public spaces are beautifully maintained and peaceful places for visitors."
Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: "Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: "Congratulations to everyone who has worked tirelessly to ensure these spaces achieve the high standards required for the Green Flag Award. Quality parks and green spaces like these make the country a healthier place to live and work, and a stronger place in which to invest.
"Crucially, these are vital green spaces for communities in Spelthorne to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis, are a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space."
