Fordbridge Centre gets a fresh new look

Fordbridge Centre
The Fordbridge Centre in Ashford has recently undergone a makeover, giving the much-loved community hub a brighter and more flexible space for residents to enjoy.

Council Leader Joanne Sexton knew exactly how she wanted to use her Your Fund Surrey grant allocation. The Fordbridge Community Centre in Ashford received nearly £50,000 to expand and enhance the main hall, including a new tea bar and a more flexible space. With Cllr Sexton’s support, the Friends of Fordbridge charity applied for and secured the full amount.

Cllr Sexton said, “Whenever I visit, I am always struck by the difference this centre makes to some of Ashford’s longest-standing residents. The food is fantastic, the activities are excellent, and the warm, inclusive atmosphere ensures no one feels lonely or isolated. I could not think of a better place to benefit from my grant allocation as a Surrey County Councillor. It’s a great example of partnership between the borough and county councils delivering the best outcomes for residents.”

The Fordbridge Centre in Ashford, along with the Staines Community Centre and Greeno Centre in Shepperton, offers a wide range of activities including yoga, pilates, quizzes, art, bridge, computer classes, singing, bingo, dancing, book club and language classes. Some centres also provide hairdressing, chiropody and beautician services.

The community centres are great places to enjoy a bite to eat, meet people, or try something new.

Membership costs £19 a year for Spelthorne residents and £30 a year for those living outside the Borough. To become a member, visit your nearest centre or visit www.spelthorne.gov.uk/community-centres for contact details.
