Spelthorne strikes Gold at prestigious awards – again!

Spelthorne South and South East awards
Spelthorne Borough Council has once again struck gold at the South & South East in Bloom Awards 2025, with every one of the Council’s entries receiving a Gold award.

The annual South & Southeast in Bloom competition encourages councils, residents and businesses to work together to enhance local environments and make towns and villages more attractive and sustainable places to live.

The Council’s continued efforts to create a cleaner, greener and more vibrant Borough were recognised with Gold awards for all five entries:

  • Ashford Cemetery
  • Staines Cemetery
  • Sunbury Cemetery
  • Sunbury Walled Garden
  • Sunbury Park and Orchard Meadow (joint entry)

Cllr Malcolm Beecher, Chairman of Spelthorne Borough Council’s Environment Committee, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have achieved Gold across all of our entries this year. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams who maintain these wonderful spaces for everyone to enjoy. These awards show what can be achieved when passion and pride come together to care for our local environment.”

Adding to the celebrations, the Charlton Village Residents’ Association achieved Gold in the Small Village category for their independent entry, a fantastic result that highlights the strength of community spirit and local pride across the Borough.

The Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr John Doran, added:

“Congratulations to the Charlton Village Residents’ Association for their fantastic achievement in winning Gold in the Small Village category title.

Their success is a shining example of community spirit at its best, and it’s wonderful to see residents working together to create such a beautiful and welcoming village.”

The Sunbury Walled Garden, located on Thames Street in Sunbury-on-Thames, is open seven days a week from 8am – 5pm.
