New interim Chief Executive announced at Spelthorne Borough Council
Gordon brings extensive experience in supporting councils and partnerships through periods of transition. He has a strong track record as a Chief Executive, having worked previously at a number of local authorities, including Nottingham City Council, Great Yarmouth, Oxford City and most recently as interim CEX at Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority Council. He will be joining Spelthorne Borough Council on Monday 2 March.
The Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council, Cllr Joanne Sexton, said: “Gordon was selected by a cross-party appointments panel, who were all impressed by his leadership qualities and experience and I very much look forward to working with him. His proven track record as an interim Chief Executive, supporting councils through periods of transition, gives me strong confidence. We are making good progress towards the establishment of West Surrey Council, while continuing to deliver the high-quality services our residents expect.”
On his appointment, Gordon Mitchell said: “I am very grateful for the opportunity to undertake this role. I am fully aware of the challenges ahead, including supporting Local Government Reorganisation, ensuring financial stability, delivering frontline services, and supporting our residents, communities and staff. However, I am reassured that we have a dedicated team of staff and Councillors who are passionately committed to serving our borough. I look forward to working with them, our partners and the community to deliver on our priorities.”
