PSPO enforcement brings real improvements for Stanwell and Stanwell Moor
Prior to the PSPO, residents reported frequent issues including blocked driveways, inappropriate parking, littering, public urination and defecation, excessive noise and air pollution caused by vehicles idling for long periods.
Since the PSPO came into force, Spelthorne Borough Council has taken a robust enforcement-led approach. Council officers have issued warnings and advice to more than 2,000 drivers, issued 450 Fixed Penalty Notices and successfully prosecuted five drivers for breaches of the order.
The Council says this rigorous enforcement has led to a noticeable improvement in the quality of life for residents living in the affected areas.
Cllr John Turner, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, said:
“This PSPO was introduced to protect residents from persistent anti-social behaviour that was having a serious impact on their daily lives. Since May 2024, our officers have worked tirelessly to enforce the order, and the results speak for themselves.
We have seen a real reduction in illegal parking, noise and environmental nuisance, and residents have told us they feel the difference. While we will continue to educate drivers, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action where necessary to ensure our communities are respected.”
