Statement of Accounts update

Spelthorne's council offices
Spelthorne has delayed publishing its draft Statement of Accounts for 2025/26 (for the financial year ending 31 March 2026), as it has identified some technical accounting issues relating to the Collection Fund with respect to business rates accounting. Business rates accounting is a particularly complex area of local authority accounting, and the issues are accounting in nature, rather than underlying cash collection and receipt issues

The Council has brought in external experts who have done a short review which is concluding in the next few weeks. This will enable the Council to make the required accounting adjustments and publish the draft Accounts in early September. The Council’s external auditors are aware of the issues and have indicated that they do not expect this to impact on their ability to present their audit report on the draft Statement of Accounts at the November 2026 Audit Committee.

The notice is available to read at Statement of Accounts | Spelthorne Borough Council
