Design code

*CONSULTATION NOW CLOSED*

The public statutory consultation on the Spelthorne Design Code, which ran for 6 weeks until 11.59pm on Monday 4 August, is now closed.

To see what is in the Code, the Spelthorne Design Code-Final Draft for Consultation (May 2025) is published and available to view and download on the Design Code engagement hub. To respond to the consultation, a short survey was open for comments on the same page.

Printed copies of the Spelthorne Design Code were also available to view in-person at libraries around the Borough and the Council Offices.

Comments could also be submitted by email to designcode@spelthorne.gov.uk or by post to Strategic Planning, Council Offices, Knowle Green, Staines-upon-Thames, TW18 1XB.

More information on the Code

For the last year Spelthorne Borough Council has been working with Councillors, consultants, external stakeholders and the wider community to develop a Design Code for the Borough.

Extensive public engagement throughout the project has ensured we have welcomed all views from every demographic in Spelthorne. The Design Code aims to reflect what Spelthorne residents would like to maintain and preserve and what they may want to change and improve.

A Design Code is a manual or handbook that contains drawings, plans and a set of rules that will influence how all new buildings, streets, parks, gardens, and public spaces across the Borough should be designed and built, or how existing buildings should be modified.
