Benches

Memorial benches in Spelthorne are available to buy in memory of loved ones.

We will try to position the bench as close as possible to the area you want but there are restrictions to where it can be placed. Please note memorial benches in cemeteries will not be placed next to graves but in prominent areas of the cemetery.

We offer plaques on the benches with a variety of wording such as "Donated by the Friends and Family of..." or the name of the person being remembered and the bench installation date, within the borough subject to land permissions. However, if it is a memorial bench where an inscription such as "In memory of..." or "Remembering..." is required, please note we can only offer placement within one of our cemeteries, subject to availability.

Maintenance of memorial benches

Spelthorne Borough Council is not responsible for any acts of vandalism or theft that may result in your memorial seat being broken or damaged.

If a bench is not maintained or has become damaged, we have the right to remove it.

Please note that while we supply and install benches, we do not maintain them following installation. We are not able to offer an existing bench or a plaque only for sponsorship.

Your bench's location

The exact position has to be agreed with the Parks and Open Spaces Team.

Ordering your memorial bench

Once the location of the bench has been decided, and we have received your application form and payment, the order will be placed. Delivery of the memorial bench usually takes between 6-10 weeks and we will then install the memorial seat as soon as possible.
