The Eclipse Leisure Centre opened on Tuesday 15 October.
The state-of-the-art facility is located in Knowle Green in Staines-upon-Thames and benefits from a comprehensive range of facilities, including:
The Eclipse Leisure Centre will also be extremely energy efficient as the first full scale 'wet and dry' and largest leisure centre in UK to be fully built to the ultra-low energy 'Passivhaus' standard. The Council expects the new centre to use between 60 and 70% less energy than a typical modern leisure centre - a major step in helping the Council achieve its aim of becoming carbon neutral in the coming years.

The company was appointed by the Council following a competitive tender process as part of a major investment in the Borough's leisure facilities with the construction of the new multi-million-pound Spelthorne Leisure Centre. Places Leisure will take over the management of both centres next year when the new centre opens.
Places Leisure is part of Places for People, one of the UK's leading social enterprises, and welcomes over 30 million members annually to its 100 health and wellbeing facilities across the country. As a social enterprise, the company's profits are reinvested back into its core business of creating and maintaining thriving communities and driving social value. As well as operating the centres, Places Leisure will be delivering an extensive outreach programme, taking wellbeing activity to reach residents in all areas of the Borough.
Spelthorne Borough Council's Planning Committee approved plans to build a new Leisure Centre in the Borough in June 2021, following a public consultation which ran from 28 February to 10 April 2020, including a public exhibition on 28 and 29 February at the existing Spelthorne Leisure Centre.
The overwhelming majority of respondents to the consultation either submitted their responses via the interactive website or by filling in the questionnaire at the existing Spelthorne Leisure Centre. Only a small handful of residents posted in their responses to the Council. Residents could also email comments to a dedicated email address.
We received a total of 517 responses, with the feedback showing that the vast majority of respondents (96%) would like to see the Council build a new leisure centre. 97% of respondents supported the proposed location, whilst 92% said the suggested range of facilities would meet their needs. 15% of respondents said they would like to see larger studios for fitness classes, whilst a smaller number of comments and suggestions were received on a number of other issues including energy efficiency, the swimming pool, squash courts, changing rooms, accessibility for disabled users, external lighting and walkways, and the cost of using the facilities.
