Our handyperson scheme allows small adaptations to a person’s home to make their life easier. This service is free to adults who are aged, disabled or in receipt of certain disability benefits.
We can offer:
- Keysafe install - A key safe is a metal box which stores the key to your door. It is installed into brick or concrete on the outside of your property and your keys are accessed by a combination code. The code will only be known to you and anyone with access to your property in the event of an emergency.
- Grab rails by the front/back door or in the bathroom.
- Galvanized rails (outside the home)
- Bannister rail up the stairs
- Half steps
- Shower seats
- Moving furniture to facilitate a hospital discharge and delivery of a hospital bed
As the funding for this service comes from government funds, the team require the persons national insurance number as proof that they are eligible for the works.
We also need to know if you are a homeowner, renting or a housing association tenant.
If you are a homeowner we are able to take a referral over the phone.
If you rent your home privately, your landlord needs to agree any changes to the home. This may delay any works and you will need to get their agreement before referring yourself.
If you are a housing association tenant, you should approach your social landlord to request support, as your landlord will have a responsibility to offer this.
