Disabled Facilities Grants - DFG

Disabled Facilities Grants are available to help fund the cost of aids and adaptations to enable a disabled person to live independently in their own home and support the provision of decent, healthy, and safe housing within the Borough.

We provide grants up to £30,000 to help to provide suitable facilities and adaptations.

Approval for the grant must be given before starting work.

Eligibility

Anyone who is registered disabled, or eligible for registration as a disabled person.

Some works, not all, are subject to a means test. The scheme is similar to the Housing Benefit's means test, but some benefit payments can be disregarded.

Eligible work

  • Providing wet rooms and adapted toilets.
  • Helping access around the home eg widening doors, stairlifts and through floor lifts.
  • Work to help access to homes and gardens eg ramps.
  • Making a dwelling safe as the disabled client has behavioural problems.
  • Kitchen adaptations for access and wheelchair users.
  • Improving access around the home to help disabled occupants to care for others.
